What is a Data Protection Officer?

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) sets out a mandate for certain organisations and businesses to appoint a Data Protection Officer - the International Association of Privacy Professionals has estimated in the region of 75,000 Data Protection Officers will be required globally.

      *   Advise organisations or businesses of their obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR),

      *   Co-operate with the supervisory authority, in the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO),

      *   Perform data protection impact assessments, assess and advise on an appropriate action plan,

      *   Perform compliance audits,

      *   Develop and maintain an organisation's or businesses' policies and procedures,

      *   Perform awareness training for staff.


Do I need a Data Protection Officer?

Under General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) there are certain organisations and businesses where it is a mandatory requirement such as where the processing is carried out by a public authority or body, where the core activities of the business involves processing special categories of data or where there is regular and systematic monitoring of data subjects on a large scale.
